Your mattress is one of your serious friendly relationships. You want to ensure that it lasts and lasts. To do this, you need to learn proper mattress cleaning tips.
You might be keen on hygiene, but your mattress slowly collects dirt, dead skin, dust and mites. If you have pets, the need for regular cleaning escalates.
Cleaning your mattress is not a complicated task. We put together this post to teach you easy mattress cleaning tips that you can follow.
- Assemble your cleaning materials
Get your hands on:
- A vacuum cleaner. Preferably one that has an upholstery accessory.
- Baking soda
- Dish soap for stain elimination
- Cold water
- Clean cloths
- Wash the bedding
Strip your bed of pillowcases, the mattress cover and bed sheets. Throw them in your machine as you get to work on your mattress.
Using hot water on your bedding will remove all dust mites. Refer to the care label on your pillows to determine if they can receive the same treatment.
- Vacuuming the mattress
Assemble the upholstery attachment and vacuum all the sides of your mattress. Pay extra attention to the seams. If you need to reach dust and dirt in all crannies, assemble the crevice attachment.
- Deep cleaning the mattress
For this step, you will need a capable stain remover. Do not directly apply water, cleaning solution or soak the mattress. You need to exercise caution while spot cleaning your mattress.
Choose a stain remover that goes well with the type of mattress and stains you wish to remove.
Biological stains will need an enzyme cleaner. Lightly spray the solution on a clean cloth, which you will use to blot the mattress surface to remove the stains.
If you can’t get your hands on a good enzyme cleaner, make your own cleaning agent by mixing water with dish soap. Apply the foam on the stain.
- Dab baking soda on your mattress
Skip this step if you can put out your mattress in the sun for a fresh dose of air and sun. If it is not possible, sprinkle an even layer of baking soda on the mattress and leave it for a couple of hours.
The baking soda absorbs all odors, moisture or acids. Open all windows to allow maximum sunshine and light in.
Vacuum all sides of your mattress. Go over other fabric surfaces on your bed too. This includes headboards, dressers and everything in between.
- Flip your mattress
At this stage, you have spot-cleaned one side of the mattress. Ideally, you should flip the sides every three to five months. It doesn’t matter whether you are deep cleaning or not.
It is good to check what your manufacturer says about their product. Different products are made differently.
- Use a mattress cover
We hope that you now know how to freshen your mattress up. After the surface dries up, use a fresh mattress protector to retain your clean mattress.
This will ensure that you have an easier time while getting rid of dirt and spills in future. You can find out more about mattress cleaning on clicking this link
